Registration
Registration will open up each day at 8:00 AM; the first rider will start riding at 9:00 AM. There will be no pre-registration for this event. Riding will continue until all participants are finished. Entry fee is $35. This amount pays for your ride, an exclusive Texas Jam '03 T-shirt (short sleeve), stickers, and other various shwag from our sponsors. Limited quantities of Hyperlite shirts are also available to those who register early (while supplies last). At registration, a rider has the choice to upgrade their short sleeve shirt to a long sleeve shirt for an extra $5. Extra shirts will also be available for purchase (see below). Registration will close 20 minutes before the first rider takes off from the dock. All participants must sign a waiver form before riding. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or legal guardian sign this for you.

Format
There will be six (6) riding divisions total, three (3) divisions will ride on Saturday and three (3) divisions will ride on Sunday. The divisions are Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, Outlaw, and Wakeskate. Since it is late in the season and we are low on sunlight, there will be a rider limit in each division (see below). This is subject to change based on the turnout and interest shown. Rules for each division are listed in the rules section. Heats may be limited to 10 riders. The top three from each heat will continue on to the finals of that division for a second ride. If there are less than 10 riders in a heat, the number of riders advancing will be decreased. Riders will not ride more than twice. Heat decisions will be made at the site based on the number of participants entered. There will be NO wildcards in this event. Beginner and Intermediate divisions are limited to two (2) falls or two (2) passes (down and back). Advanced, Expert, Outlaw, and Wakeskate divisions are limited to 5 minutes of total riding (unlimited falls within that time frame). If you fall with less than 1 minute left in your run, the boat will not turn back around to pick you up. There will be a PWC waiting at the dock to pick you up after your last fall.

Judging
Three to four wakeboarding experts will judge each class. Each judge will have a score sheet and will annotate tricks as they are attempted regardless of success. To start, each judge will rank the first rider in the heat/division as #1. As more individuals ride, each judge will separately rank the next rider accordingly as he/she feels fit. Amplitude, style, and composition (number of tricks/difficulty) will all go into the subjective placement of each individual. At the end of the heat/division, each judge will have his own ranking of all the riders (1-10, for example). These rankings will be calculated for placements. An individual's total score will be established by subtracting the sum of the total placements from 100. Example After a heat is completed, three judges ranked the riders as follows:

Rider 6 received three #1 placements, so her score will be 100-3 = 97.
Rider 2 received a 5th, 2nd, and 3rd placing, his score will be 5+2+3 = 10 à 100-10 = 90. Riders will then be placed in order according to score. Judges are strongly discouraged from talking amongst each other about specific rankings throughout the heats. Of course, judges can still talk about riding or anything else. Basically, it is important to be certain that the three votes are mutually exclusive of each other and not influenced by outside opinions. In the result of a tie score, the lead judge (to be determined) will make the final decision.

Division Rules, Order, and Tricks
There will be no sliders, kickers, or other obstacles at this tournament. Plans are in work to have obstacles next year.

Beginner and Intermediate

  • 2 passes or 2 falls (2nd fall your run is over).
  • Each rider will begin from the starting dock. Judging will start at a pre-determined spot which will be explained on the day of the event.
  • Out of course tricks will not be counted.
  • You are allowed one out of course fall, after that it counts towards your 2-fall limit.
  • You may repeat tricks, but remember variety is a good thing; judges like to see different tricks.
  • You must be on the starting dock ready to go when the boat arrives for you. If you are not there you will forfeit your ride.

Advanced, Expert, Outlaw, and Wakeskate
  • Each rider will have 5 minutes for his or her run.
  • If you fall with less than 1 minute left in your run, the boat will not turn back around to pick you up.
  • Your run (and the 5 minutes) begins when you pass a pre-determined starting point.
  • Only tricks LANDED will count towards your invert/360 limit.
  • You may not repeat inverts/360s unless you want them to count towards your invert/360 limit.
  • You may repeat other tricks, but remember variety is a good thing, judges like to see different tricks.
  • You must be on the starting dock ready to go when the boat arrives for you. If you are not there you will forfeit your ride.

FAQs

What should I bring?Bring your board, a life vest, and your entry fee. That's all you really need.

What CAN I bring? As a spectator, you can bring almost anything you want or need including a tent for shade, chairs and drinks/food if you need it. Dogs will need to be on a leash and parking may be limited. As a rider you can bring your own rope, some binding slime, and even wear a helmet if you support SLAPAHO (one of our sponsors).

Can I pay with Credit Card? No, credit cards and debits cards will not be accepted. Cash and Check only. An individual person or one of our sponsors will be designated to receive checks in their name, as we are yet to establish a business or a bank account in the name of Dallaswakeboarding.com.

Where is it? How do I get there? How you get there is up to you. If you need directions, you can plug in 5800 N. O'Connor Blvd, Irving, TX 75039 into Mapquest, or just look at the maps here for the location. Brian, set up a link to the maps here please.

Where can I sit once I get there? We are still trying to determine the best place for people to sit. As the event gets closer, visit the message board at dallaswakeboarding.com and look out for posts concerning great views at Mustang Canyon.

What division should I ride in? This one is up to you. Look at the divisions and honestly judge how well you ride, how good it looks, and how many tricks you can throw. If you have four bread and butter inverts/spins under your belt and are 50/50 on one or two more, maybe you should consider taking the challenge and moving up to the next bracket. In the end it's really up to you. Ride where you feel most comfortable. Just remember, it's all about having fun. If you're not having fun, you're at the tournament for the wrong reason.

Will there be any Wakeskating in this tournament? Yes, there will be a Wakeskating division at this tournament.

Will there be a girls division? No, not this time. Just not enough time and not enough prizes to go around. Hopefully, we will still get a good turnout from all the women who love to ride. A good turnout this time could lead to a girls division next year.

Will there be any obstacles? Not this time. Look for obstacles in next year's tournament.

Will there be time for practice runs before the tournament? No, there will not be any practice runs.

Is there pre-registration for this event? No. All registration will take place during the hours of the event.

How big will the wake be? This information is still yet to be determined, but rest assured that you will be happy with the wake. The boat will arrive at Mustang Canyon the day before the tournament. At this time, the coordinators will test different configurations for proper wake size. From experience, it'll probably be something like this, but is subject to change:

Beginner: Factory Ballast, no wedge down
Intermediate: Factory Ballast, wedge down, maybe some additional weight in nose
Advanced: Factory Ballast, wedge down, extra weight in back and nose
Expert/Outlaw/Wakeskate: Make it barely plane out

Can I help? Yes. We could use some volunteers at the tournament. If you are interested, send an email to the admin explaining your desires, available days, available times, and contact info. If you have a specific task in mind that you would like to help with, please also give that information. We will put your names on a list and contact you a few days prior to the tournament if you are needed (first come, first served). Please, only offer help if you will definitely be available. We would hate to schedule someone in to help and have them not show.

If there are any other questions, please direct them to the DWB.com Admin. FYI, message board will probably be answered in a shorter time.
